The term "meristematic tissue" refers to the living tissues containing undifferentiated cells that are the building blocks of all specialized plant structures.
According to the regions meristematic stem is divided in to three.
1)Apical meristem
2)Intercalary meristem
3)Lateral meristem
Functions:
1)Meristimatic tissue is the parent tissue from which other tissues develop.
2) Meristimatic tissue takes part in growth by formation of new cells .
3) The place of injury is healed up by formation of new cells.
4)The shoots lodged or bent by wind are made to grow upright by activity of intercalary meristem.
