Definition:• Plant tissue consists of undifferentiated cells where active cell division occurs which then forms new, specialized cells. Meristematic tissue is an area of active plant growth. These tissues can be the cambium layer, leaf, flower buds or root tips.

Characteristics of meristematic tissue:

• Meristematic tissue composed of immature cells.• Intercellular spaces are absent.• The shape of the cells is oval, rounded or polygon.• Cells are living and thinly walled.• The cell is devoid of reserve food materials, plastids and ER.• Diploid cell and it shows mitotic cell division.• Cells are rich in the cytoplasm and have minute vacuoles.
