Meristematic tissue is also called dividing tissue or growing tissue.Cells of meristematic tissue or growing tissue have the potential to divide continuously. Thus, they help in increasing the length and girth of the plant. The growth in all multicellular plants is restricted to certain regions called meristems, which are made up of meristematic tissue.
Characteristics of meristematic tissue
1)The cells are spherical, oval, polygonal or rectangular in shape.
2)The cells grow and divide repeatedly.
3)These cells are compactly arranged without any intercellular spaces between them.
4)This tissue contains undifferentiated cells.
5)Cells of meristematic tissue are similar in structure and have thin cellulosic cell walls. Each cell contains dense and abundant cytoplasm with a large single nucleus. They contain few or no vacuoles.......
