it is a type of substance which poses lustre, hardness, good conductor of electricity etc
These are the substances which are electropositive in nature i.e., they have a tendency to lose electrons.They generally have 1, 2, or 3 electrons in their outermost shell.
Metals are the elements that conduct heat and electricity and are malleable and ductile. Metals are also lustrous (Shiny) , strong and sonorous (which make ringing sound when struck ). Some of the examples of metals are Iron, Aluminium, Copper, Mercury, Zinc, Tin, Lead, Gold, and Platinum etc.

Also metals react with oxygen to produce oxides that are basic in nature ( the basic nature of metallic oxide can be tested with the help of litmus paper or a universal indicator).
Example Mg will react with oxygen to form MgO which is basic nature
2Mg + O2 -----> 2MgO
Hope it helps
