micronutrients are the nutrients needed in small quantities in our body like vitamins and minerals. they do not need digestion and get directly absorbed into the blood stream. they are known as protective principle of food as they provide us with immunity to protect from diseases

whereas macronutrients needs digestion. they are required in large quantities like proteins carbohydrates and fats. they provide us with energy. they are also known as proximate principle of food

There are 16 nutrients essential for plants. Air supplies Carbon and oxygen, hydrogen comes from water and soil supplies the other 13 nutrients. Among these 13 nutrients 6 are required in large quantities are known as Macro nutrients.

The other seven nutrients which are used by plants in small quantities are known as micro nutrients.
