In chemistry, Molecular orbital (MO) theory is a method for describing the electronic structure of molecules using quantum mechanics. Electrons are not assigned to individual bonds between atoms, but are treated as moving under the influence of the nuclei in the whole molecule.

Molecular Atomic Theory-: This theory tells us that during overlapping or molecules formation the atomic orbital losses it's identity and then which leads to the formation of new orbitals which is known as molecular orbitals.
Some general features of Molecular Orbitals are as follows-:
1. It is formed by the overlapping of atomic orbital of the same energy.
2. The number of the atomic orbitals will equal to the Orbitals formed in number.
3. Electronic configuration is done by Aufbau's rule, Hund's rule and Pauli's exclusion principle.
4. Bonding molecular orbital is lower energy of the half of the molecular orbital.
