It may be defined as 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon-12 isotope on atomic sacle. That is 1AMU =1/12 of mass of C12 isotope.

Molecular mass for a molecule can be defined as-

It is the mass of one mole of the molecule in gram .

And, mass of one molecule is calculated by the summation of atomic masses of each element persent in the molecule. Unit of mass of one molecule is 'amu'.

By replacing the unit amu from gram will give the molecular mass for that molecule e.g for HCl molecule, mass of one molecule is equal to

35.4 + 1 = 36.4 amu.

So, for one mole of HCl molecule the mass is 36.4 gram. Hence, The molecular mass is 36.4 gram.
