the product of mass and velocity is called as momentum. it is denoted by'p'

p=mv

where p= momentum

m= mass

v= velocity

kinetic energy =1/2 mv^2

multiply and divided by m, then K.E=(mv)^2/2m

but mv = p ,hence k.e = p^2/2m

hope it helps
