Momentum is a measure of the quantity of motion in a body. It depends upon the mass and velocity of the body. So, more the momentum, more the quantity of motion. Like saying more the temperature, the hotter the body.  

It's formula is -

p = mv

Where, P =momentum,

m = mass of the body,

v = velocity of the body.

The SI unit of momentum is kgm/s.

Now, a change in momentum implies that a force has been applied.
