define monohybrid cross explain the monohybrid cross with suitable example
Answers
A cross between two types of plants of same species considering only the transmission of one character is called monohybrid cross. For example, a cross between tall pea plants and dwarf pea plant that is considering only the height of the parents is a monohybrid cross
Answer:
Monohybrid cross is the first type of cross that was studied by Gregor Mendel. He experimented with cross on Pisum Sativum (Garden Pea).
He took two plants, one tall (TT) and one short (tt) - Its a single trait so "Mono-Hybrid cross".
And then cross pollinated them. The F1 generation so obtained had all the plants Tall, Phenotypically, because genotypically they were all Tt, Tt, Tt, Tt (obtained by Punett square)
Then the F1 generation when self pollinated resulted in 3 tall plants and one dwarf plant in the F2 generation (TT, TT, Tt, tt)
Thus proving the fact that,
- Traits are inherited always
- Dominant allele always shows up in Homo & Heterozygous forms
