define motion:-

  • Motion is the change of position of a body with time, with respect to a stationary body.

Motions are of three types:

TRANSLATORY MOTION - if a body moves as a whole, such that every part of the body travels through the same distance in a given time, the body is in translatory motion.

Translatory motion is of two types-

RECTILINEAR- if a body moves along in a straight line it is said to be in rectilinear motion. Eg. A car moving along a straight line.

CURVILINEAR- if a body moves along a curved line, it is said to be in curvilinear motion. Eg. Car at a U-turn.

----------------------------------------------

CIRCULAR MOTION - the motion of a body in a circular path along a fixed point or a fixed axis is known as circular motion.

Circular motion are of two types:

ROTATION- if the body turns without shifting its position from one place to another, its motion is called rotation.

REVOLUTION- if the body moves as a whole around in a circular path, the motion is known as revolution.

----------------------------------------------

OSCILLATORY MOTION- when a body moves to-and-fro about a fixed point, it is said to be in oscillatory motion or vibratory motion.

Oscillatory motion is of three types:

REPETITIVE- if the same motion occurs again and again, it is said to be repetitive motion.

PERIODIC- a repetitive motion that takes place at regular intervals of time is periodic motion.

NON-PERIODIC- motion that is not periodic is known as non-periodic motion.

define laws of motion?

There are three types of laws of motion :

  • Newton's first law of motion
  • Newton's second law of motion
  • Newton's third law of motion

★ Newton's First Law of Motion :

  • A body in rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will continue in motion in a straight line with uniform speed, unless it is compelled by an external force to change its state or of uniform motion.

Newton's Second Law of Motion :

  • The rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the applied force, and takes place in which the force acts.

Newton's Third Law of Motion :

  • Whenever one body exerts a force on another body, the second body exerts an equal and opposite force on the first body.

OR

  • To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object's interaction with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects.
