A dioptre (British spelling) ordiopter (American spelling) is a unit of measurement of the opticalpower of a lens or curved mirror, which is equal to the reciprocal of the focal length measured in metres. (1 dioptre = 1 m-1.) It is thus a unit of reciprocal length.

the deviation of the incident light rays produced by a lens on refraction through it ,is a measure of its power

one dioptre means that it has focal length 1m
