  • Osmosis is the movement of solvent molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

  • Osmosis takes place through a semipermeable membrane.

  • The semipermeable membrane does not allow the solute molecules to pass.

  • The root hairs absorb water molecules from the soil by osmosis and transfer the absorbed water inwards to the xylem vessels by Cell to cell osmosis.
