Osmosis (/ɒzˈmoʊ. sɪs/) is the spontaneous net movement of solvent molecules through a selectively permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides.

Answer:
Osmosis is the transfer of solvent from one area to another which are divided by a semi permeable membrane due to differences in chemical potentials and osmotic pressures. The flow of solvent happens from the liquid with lower concentration of solutes to the one with higher concentration. This basically happens to balance out the solutions.
