define osmosis. explain.with an example.
Answers
osmosis is the passage of water from a region of low concentration through a semi permeable to a region of high concentration
Hey mate...
Here is your answer..
MEANING :
The process where a water molecules goes from higher concentration to lower concentration..
EXAMPLE :
Heya here is an activity from which you can understand the process of osmosis..
=> Take a potato cut into half and dip one of them into the solution of salt water.
=> Dip the another into tap water which doesn't contain salt.
=> Leave both of them for half an hour, then take them out and watch the difference.
=> U will observe that the one in the salt solution will have been shrunken showing that the water molecules in the potato which is higher than the salt solution( higher concentration ) will come in the salt solution as it contains more salt molecules( lower concentration ) .
=> The another potato will swell as it will take the water from the solution which will have more water molecules than in the potato that is it will be higher concentration and the potato will be lower concentration..
These two potatoes show that the water molecules always travel from higher concentration to lower concentration.
