1. Diffusion of a solvent (usually watermolecules) through a semipermeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration.

Osmosis is the movement of solvent particles from a region of higher concentration of solvent particles (Hypotonic) to a region of lower concentration of solvent ( Hypertonic) or movement of solvent particles from pure solvent to a solution through a semipermeable membrane.

Some examples of semi permeable membrane are :
Copper ferrocyanide and Cellophane which are artificial membranes.
Natural semi permeable membranes are Goat bladder and bladders of certain animals.
Parchment paper is also one of the examples.

Hope it helps.
