osmosis:
the movement of water molecules through a selective permeable membrane is called osmosis. it is the passage of water from high concentration to low concentration through semi permeable membrane is called osmosis.

it is different from diffusion as:
1. osmosis occur only in liquid medium whereas diffusion can occur in any medium.

2. diffusion is the movement of substance from high concentration to low concentration. osmosis is the movement of water from the area of higher concentration to lower concentration through SEMI PERMEABLE MEMBRANE.

hope it helps

Answer:

Osmosis is the naturally occurring net movement or diffusion of solvent molecules across a selectively permeable membrane from an area of high water potential to a region of low water potential in a manner that tends to balance the solute concentrations on the two sides.

Explanation:

  • There are two different kinds of transport mechanisms, called osmosis and diffusion, that take into account the flow of molecules into and out of the cell.
  • These two technologies are passive transportation systems because they run without extra energy (however, facilitated diffusion requires ATP).
  • The medium in which the two methods are applied is their main point of distinction.
  • Diffusion can occur in all three mediums, although osmosis can only function in a liquid medium (solid, liquid and gas).
  • Additionally, diffusion doesn't require a semi-permeable membrane, whereas osmosis does.
  • Osmosis may be seen in how plants take in water. When a drop of food coloring is introduced to a glass of water, diffusion is seen when the entire water volume ultimately turns colored.
