Osmosis is a type of diffusion. When the atoms or molecules move from a higher concentration to a lower concentration region, it is termed as diffusion. The atoms cross through the semi preamble membrane in order to balance the concentration of another substance. It happens spontaneously.
For Example, the roots of the plants absorb water from the soil through Osmosis. Another tried and tested example is when raisins or dried grapes are soaked in water, the raisins swell up and gain water through their semi preamble membrane.

Osmosis is the process of movement of solvent molecules through a semi-permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration to lower solute concentration.
