osmosis:- the process of movement of water from a region of higher concentration to lower concentration is called osmosis.

let us take a few examples

1) when we keep a cell in a region of higher concentration(hypertonic solution), it swells up and finally bursts.

2) when we keep a cell in a region of lower concentration (hypotonic solution), it gets shrink.

3) when we keep cell in a isotonic solution (same concentration), it remains of the same size.

vishagh: Theri will.be no osmosis, when is isotonic condition.!!

OSMOSIS: The movement of water from its higher concentration to its lower concentration through a semipermeable membrane is called as osmosis.

TWO TYPES OF OSMOSIS:

#ENDOSMOSIS: If the movement of water/osmosis occur into the cell then it is called as endosomosis.

This occurs when the cell is kept in a medium with higher concentration of water than the cell. This medium is called “hypotonic solution”.
Example: A resin (dry grape) kept in water, the dry grape cell swell due to endosmosis.

#EXOSMOSIS: If the movement of water/osmosis occur out of the cell then it is called as exosmosis. It is also called as plasmolysis

This occur when the concentration of the medium is lower than that of the cell. This type of osmosis occur “hypertonic” medium
Example: a fresh grape kept in a salt solution,it.srinks due to exosmosis

NOTE:
1.osmosis occur only through a semi-permeable membrane
2.The concentration of importance is only “water concentration”.
