A layer in the earth's stratosphere at an altitude of about 10 km (6.2 miles) containing a high concentration of ozone, which absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth from the sun.

  • ozone layer in stratosphere at one end controls the earth temperature by preventing. Ultraviolet rays, while at other end it in excess amount is harmful to organisms in lower atmosphere.

  • When the ozone concerned is 0.01 ppm, then it damages various plants like pine, bean, tomato etc. There is increase in rate of respiration in organisms and rate of evaporation in plants by the increase in amount of ozone.

  • Due to this there is degradation of DNA molecules, along with cataract, coughing and burning sensation of chest and eyes.
