Define Parthenogenesis

Parthenogenesis is a natural form of asexual reproduction in which embryos grow and develop without the need for sperm fertilisation. Parthenogenesis is the creation of an embryo from an unfertilized egg cell in animals. Parthenogenesis is a component of apomixis in plants.
Some plants, some invertebrate animal species (such as nematodes, tardigrades, water fleas, scorpions, aphids, mites, bees, Phasmatodea, and parasitic wasps), and a few vertebrate animal species (such as some fish, amphibians, reptiles, and very infrequently birds) go through parthenogenesis spontaneously. In a few species, such as fish and amphibians, this sort of reproduction has been intentionally generated.

Parthenogenesis:
- Parthenogenesis is a natural process of asexual reproduction.
- In the parthenogenesis process, the growth and development of embryos occur without fertilization by sperm.
- In animals, the parthenogenesis process is the development of an embryo from an unfertilized egg cell.
- In plants, the parthenogenesis process is done by the process of apomixis.
- Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in some plants.
- Some species reproduce exclusively by parthenogenesis, while others can switch between sexual reproduction and parthenogenesis.
- The switch between sexuality and parthenogenesis in such species depends on the season.
