DEFINE PERISCOPE??
A periscope is an instrument for observation over, around or through an object, obstacle or condition that prevents direct line-of-sight observation from an observer's current position. In its simplest form, it consists of an outer case with mirrors at each end set parallel to each other at a 45° angle.
USES OF PERISCOPE
A periscope is an optical instrument that uses a system of prisms, lenses or mirrors to reflect images through a tube. Light from a distant object strikes the top mirror and is then reflected at an angle of 90 degrees down the periscope tube.

Simple periscopes use two mirrors inclined at an angle of 45 degrees while complex ones use prisms instead of mirrors providing magnification as well. The mirrors are placed at 45 degrees facing each other. When light falls on one mirror, it is reflected back and falls on the other mirror and gets reflected to the observer’s eyes. It helps view over, around or through an object.
The most common use of periscopes is inside the submarine and military mainly for observation from concealed positions. From inside the submarine which is deep underwater, objects above water (ships, boats etc) cannot be viewed without the help of periscopes
