◆ In 1909, Sorenson devised a scale known as the pH scale on which the strength of acid solution as well as the basic solution could be represented by making use of hydrogen ions concentration in them.

◆ It is inversely proportional to the concentration of hydrogen ions in it that is a solution with a high concentration of hydrogen ions will have a low pH value and vice versa.!!

◆ It is universal indicator. It is a mixture of many different indicators or dyes which give different colours at different pH values of the entire pH scale.

◆ Points to be remembered!!✔️✔️

◆ Neutral substances have a pH exactly 7.Example ------ Sugar solution and sodium chloride solution.Neutral substances give green colour on pH.

◆Acids have pH less than 7. More acidic a solution, lower will be its pH.Strong acids give dark red colour onpH.

◆ Bases have pH more than 7.The more basic a solution , the higher will be its pH.Strong bases give violet colour on pH.
