the p in ph stands for potenz in german  which means power. ph is just a number which indicates the acidic or basic nature of a solution.

ph less than 7 , represents on acidic solution

ph more than 7, represents a basic solution..

simmilarly when ph is less than 7, concentration of H+ ions increase and solution become more acidic . when ph is more than 7,concentration of H+ ions decrease and concentration of oh- ions increases , and it becomes more basic.
