Photosynthesis is the process by which plants synthesise food by utilizing the CO2 and sunlight and H2O  and results in the formation of glucose/starch and give out O2 as byproduct.

Equation:

6CO2 + 6H2O -----> C6H12O6 + O2

There are two steps:

  1. Light reactions, which take place in the presence of light. Light reactions involve the formation of ATP, NADPH by converting solar energy into chemical energy. This involves splitting of water.
  2. Dark reactions, which depend on the products of light reaction. It involves the formation of glucose/carbohydrate molecules by utilizing the ATP formed.
