- The growth of plant in response to light is known as photoperiodism.
- A plant part may be positively photo periodic or negatively photo period.
- If the plant part grows in the same direction as the light is it is known as positively photo periodic whereas if a plant grows in the opposite direction of the light, it is known as negative photo periodic.
- This phenomenon occurs due to the presence of some hormones which are sensitive to light.
- For example the shoot of a plant is positively photo periodic where are the root of a plant is negative photo periodic.
