Plantation agriculture is a type of commercial farming where a single crop is  grown on a large area.Tea, coffee, rubber etc. in India fall under this category.  The following are the basic characteristics of the plantation agriculture:

I. Plantations have very large areas.

II. Capital intensive inputs are pressed in.

III. Migrant labourers with a certain degree of skill are used.

IV. All the production is used as raw material in respective industries.

V. The development of plantation is the result of a well-developed network of  transport & communication, connecting plantations to markets.
