define poetic devices with example
Answers
Explanation:
Poetic devices are tools that a poet can use to create rhythm, enhance a poem's meaning, or intensify a mood or feeling. These devices help piece the poem together, much like a hammer and nails join planks of wood together
A poetic device is any word or phrase that carries a different - or greater - meaning than its literal meaning (ie. its dictionary definition). There are many kinds of devices that have many fancy names, but here are a few:
metaphor: “Love is a rose and you better not pick it/It only grows when it’s on the vine
simile: “O, my love is like a red, red rose/That’s newly sprung in June….”
hyperbole: speaking of exaggeration, a hyperbole is an exaggeration. “I can see for miles and miles….”
apostrophe: “Oh Westron wind, when wilt thou blow?”
synecdoche: “I got me a new set of wheels.”
onomatopoeia: “Well my heart went boom when I crossed that room….”
