DEFINE : Pollination the process of transference of pollen grain from anther to stigma.

There are two kinds of pollination : self- pollination and cross- pollination

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROSS AND SELF POLLINATION :

SELF POLLINATION :
1. It is the transference of pollen grains from the anther to stigma of the same flower which is also called autogamy.

2. No external agent is required.

3. It preserves parental characters.

4. New varieties are not possible.

CROSS - POLLINATION :

1. It is the transference of pollen grain from anthers of one flower to the stigma of another flower of a different plant of the same species which is also called allogamy.

2. An external agent like wind , water , insects etc. is always required.

3. It does not preserve parental characters.

4. New varieties can be produced.
