There are 2 types of ions-
Anions: negatively charged
Cations: positively charged

Hence POLYATOMIC IONS means Group of atoms containing any charge that can be positive or negative.
It can also be called molecular ion.

Polyatomic ions are ions which consist of more than one atom.

For example, nitrate ion, NO3-, contains one nitrogen atom and three oxygen atoms.
