polygenic inheritance (multifactorial inheritance; quantitative inheritance) The determination of a particular characteristic, e.g. height or skin colour, by many genes (polygenes), each having a small effect individually. Characteristics controlled in this way show continuous variation.

POLYGENIC INHERITANCE ::

➡It is a inheritance in which a particular character is controlled by many genes.

➡It is a multifractional inheritance.

➡It is a quantitative inheritance.

➡As the characters are controlled by two or more genes it is called polygenic traits.

Examples of polygenic inheritance :

➡The human skin colour is the main example for this inheritance.

➡it is a classical example for polygenic inheritance.

➡in this trait the phenotype reflects the contribution of each allele.

➡The effect of each allele is additive.

➡The dark colour of skin has alleles

( AABBCC )

➡The lightest skin has alleles

( aabbcc )

➡Another example for polygenic inheritance is Human heights.
