HOLA amigo!!
Rajdeep here......

What is Potential Energy?

Potential Energy is the energy possessed by a body by virtue of its specific position or changed configuration.

The two forms of Potential energy are:
1. Gravitational Potential Energy, which is possessed by a body when the body is kept at a height above the ground.

2. Elastic Potential Energy, which is possessed by an elastic body (like a spring), when it is compressed.

Usually, the magnitude of potential energy is given by the formula mgh, where m = mass of the body, g = acceleration due to gravity, and h = height at which the body is kept.

Hope my answer is satisfactory....
Thanks!!

gargshreyansh2p4lh4n: Potential energy is an energy that is stored in an object because of its location. It can also be called as energy that is not used but readily available for use. Objects that are at rest have potential energy. For example, water in a lake, oil in a barrel, coal, wood and book on a table has stored energy or potential energy. Potential energy is a scalar quantity; it has only magnitude but do not have any direction.

1. gravitational potential energy
2. electrical potential energy
3. magnetic potential energy
4. chemical potential energy
5. elastic potential energy
