Potential energy is the energy possessed by an object because of its position.

It is the energy that an object has stored in it, because of its position, rather than motion.

For example, if you hold a ball in your hand , it has potential energy. If you throw it down, it sets into motion and thus gets converted into kinetic energyrgy

It's SI unit is joules.

It's given by mgh

Where m is the mass of the object , g is acceleration due to gravity and h is the height of the object from.the ground

Potential energy=1×1×10

= 10joules.
