Define potential Energy. Write expression for Potential Energy possessed by a body lifted to
certain height ‘h’. A person of 60kg climbs a stair case and reaches to a height of 4m.
Calculate the potential energy acquired by the person. (take g = 10m/s2)

Answer:
Potential Energy definition :
The energy gained by an object due to change in relative position of that object is called Potential Energy
Expression:
P.E. = mgh
Here,
m - Mass of obj.
g - acceleration due to gravity
h - height or distance between the objects
SUM:
Given:-
Mass(m) = 60 kg
Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 10 m/s
Height (h) = 4m
- P.E. = mgh
⇒ P.E. = 60 x 10 x 4
⇒ P.E. = 60 x 40 = 2400 Joules (J)
Therefore the person gained 2400 Joules of energy by climbing the stairs of height 4m.
