A chemical reaction in which exchange of ions take place or oxidation and reduction takes place is called redox reaction.

Nitisha2k: The reaction in which oxidation as well as reduction takes place simultaneously is called as a redox reaction

Answer :-

A "Redox reaction" is a type of chemical reaction in which both oxidation and reduction of the reactants takes place simultaneously.

Eg - Reaction between Copper(II) oxide (CuO) and Hydrogen (H2) to give Copper (Cu) and water (H2O).

CuO + H2 ------> Cu + H2O

In the above reaction, it can be clearly observed that Copper(II) oxide (CuO) is being reduced and Hydrogen (H2) is being oxidised.

Thus, this is a Redox reaction.

Points to be noted :-

  • Oxidation - Addition of Oxygen (O2).

  • Reduction - Removal of oxygen (O2).
