When there is loss of Oxygen and gain of hydrogen it is known as Redox reaction
Cu +o2=cuo
Mg+o2=mgo
I hope it will help you

Redox reaction is a reaction in which oxidation and reduction takes place simultaneously.
Oxidation reaction is when a compound gains oxygen and loses hydrogen.
Reduction reaction is when a compound gains hydrogen and loses oxygen.
For example:
Cu + H2O = CuO + H2
Here reducing agent is Cu as it has gained oxygen.
Hydrogen is oxidising agent as it has lost oxygen.
ZnO + C = CO + Zn
Here, reducing agent is C and oxidising agent is Zn.
Thanks.
Hope this helps you!!!
