Answer:

Reduction is a chemical reaction that involves the gaining of electrons by one of the atoms involved in the reaction between two chemicals. The term refers to the element that accepts electrons, as the oxidation state of the element that gains electrons is lowered.

Corrosion is a process through which metals in manufactured states return to their natural oxidation states. This process is a reduction-oxidation reaction in which the metal is being oxidized by its surroundings, often the oxygen in air.

Answer:

Reduction is nothing but the gain of electrons, or it can also be said as the addition of hydrogen and removal of oxygen. It involves the removal of electronegative ions too. Generally, almost all reactions which are reduction reactions are oxidation reactions too. Henceforth, they are called as redox reactions.

When a metal is attacked by substances such as moisture, acids and oxygen, it is said to corrode and form a layer upon it. This process is called corrosion. Some examples are as follows :

1. Formation of rust upon iron when react with moisture or oxygen to form iron oxide. The process is called Rusting.

2. Formation of a black tinch upon silver when exposed to moisture by the reaction of it with sulphur, forming silver sulphide. The process is called Tarnishing.

3. Formation of a greenish tinch upon copper when exposed to moisture, forming basic copper carbonate.
