Answer:

In metallurgy, refining consists of purifying an impure metal. It is to be distinguished from other processes such as smelting and calcining in that those two involve a chemical change to the raw material, whereas in refining, the final material is usually identical chemically to the original one, only it is purer.

Refining of metals

It is the separation of the above extracted metals from the residual impurity such as:

1)The presence of other metals and non metals like silicon and phosphorus.

2)Unreduced oxides and sulphides of the metal.

Note:Refining is the process by which crude metal is purified.

The method of purification used depend upon:-

a) Nature of metal.

b) Nature of the impurities present

in the metal.

c) Purpose for which the metal is to be used.

I hope this answer would help you friend.
