Hey there !!

Bouncing back by a surface  [ solid , liquid ]  of heat or light  [ and it does not get absorbed ] is known as reflection.

Reflection of sound :-
Bouncing back of sound wave from a surface  [ solid or liquid ] is known as reflection of sound wave

laws of reflection of sound :-

First Law of Reflection: The incident wave, the reflected wave, and the normal at the point of incidence lie on the same plane.

Law of Reflection: The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.

Defination of "Reflection"

Answer Starts

Reflection :-

The phenomenon due to which a ray of light travelling from one optical medium to another bounces off from its surface with the change of angle, is called reflection of light or reflection.

Terms of Reflection :-

Incident Ray : A light ray striking a reflecting surface is called the incident ray, which travels from an optical medium and starts from an object.

Reflected Ray : A ray of light which gets bounced back or reflected from the surface on object is called reflected ray.

Point of Incidence : The point at which the incident ray strikes the reflecting surface is called the point of incidence.

Angle of Incidence : The angle between the incident ray and the normal at the point of incidence is called the angle of incidence ( < i ).

Normal : The perpendicular drawn to the surface at the point of incidence is called the normal.

Angle of Reflection : The angle between the reflected ray and the normal is called the angle of reflection ( < r ).

Laws Of Reflection :-

When a ray of light gets reflected from a smooth surface it obeys certain laws. These are called laws of reflection.

There are two laws of reflection.

Law 1 : The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection i.e. < i = < r.

Law 2 : The incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal at the point of incidence all lie in the same plane.

Types Of Reflection :-

When a ray of light falls on a surface, it gets reflected. The amount and the direction of light reflected depends on the nature of the surface. Depending upon the nature of the reflecting surface, there are two types of reflections.

  • Regular Reflection.
  • Irregular or Diffused Reflection.

Regular reflection : Reflection of light from a smooth mirror is called a regular reflection.

Irregular Reflection : Reflection of light from a rough surface is called irregular or diffused reflection.
