Reflex action in an involuntary action by the body to external stimuli, in which we cannot control ourselves. Reflex actions often bypass the brain altogether to occur very quickly.
There are a number of different reflex pathways in the body. A classic example of a reflex pathway can be observed by touching a hot object. Whenever our hand touches a hot object, it triggers a reflex. Signals from the stimulus are transmitted to the spinal cord along the reflex pathway and the spinal cord activates motor neurons, causing the hand to pull away from the hot object.
