Refractive index of a material is the ratio of the velocity of light in vacuum to the velocity of light in the given medium.

According to Snell's Law,

n =  \frac{ \sin(i) }{ \cos(r) }  \\ where \: i \: is \: the \: angle \: of \: incdence  \\\: and \: r \: is \: the \: angle \: of \: refraction

therfore by knowing angle of incidence and refractive index of material we can find the angle of refraction.
