Relative density is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of the given reference material.Specific gravity usually means relative density with respect to water .The term "relative density"is often preferred in specific usage.

Relative density has no unit because it is the ratio of same units which gets cancelled .

ANSWER. Relative density is the ratio of density of a substance to the density of water at 40 C .Since the units for both the numerator and denominator are same, they cancel each other. Thus relative density has no units. Density is defined as mass per unit volume. Hence its SI unit is: kg/m3.
