When light ray is going from one medium (other than vacuum or air) to another medium then the value of refractive index is said to be relative refractive index

The relative refractive index is explained below:

  • Refractive Index is the ratio of the speed of light in two mediums when it enters from the first to the second medium whereas the relative refractive index is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the medium.
