Relative velocity is defined as the velocity of a particle with respect to another particle.

It is given by,

 V = V_A - V_B .

More: For example, I am moving to South direction in a straight road with a uniform speed of 2 m/s, and a bus is coming near me at a speed of 10 m/s (north).

So, relative velocity will be 12 m/s.

As, V = 2 - (- 10) m/s = 12 m/s.
