Rhizopus has thread-like hyphae on which tiny 'blob-on-a-stick' structures known as sporangia are developed. Sporangia contain spores that are involved in reproduction. The spores are covered by thick walls that protect them against drying up. When the spores come in contact with another moist surface they eventually germinate into new individuals.

Rhizopus species grow as filamentous, branching hyphae that generally lack cross-walls (i.e., they are coenocytic). They reproduce by forming asexual and sexual spores. ... In sexualreproduction, a dark zygospore is produced at the point where two compatible mycelia fuse.
