The number of bits used in designing the least unit of knowledge mainly a byte or pixel in an audio or video or graphics data file. Higher the bit depth, satisfactory quality of stored or reproduced image or sound can be received.

Resolution is the number of pixels carried on a monitor and explained in terms of the number of pixels on the parallel axis and the number of pixels on the perpendicular axis. The sharpness of the picture on a  monitor display depends on the resolution and the dimension of the monitor.
