  • Respiration is the process by which food is oxidised to release energy at cellular levels.

  • As a catabolic process it causes biochemical oxidation of nutrients such as glucose.

➡️There are two types of respiration:

  1. Aerobic Respiration is the the complete breakdown of food in the presence of oxygen. It releases large amount of energy in the form of ATP molecules.
  2. Anaerobic Respiration is incomplete breakdown of food or curing in the absence of oxygen, releasing small amount of energy.

Answer:

Explanation:

Respiration :-

All living organisms needed energy or ATP to carry out further life processes. This energy comes from food. However, processes carried out in cells cannot use the energy locked in stored food, fats, etc., directly. Cellular processes get usable energy from a process called respiration. Respiration commonly involves the use of oxygen to break down carbohydrates and other organic molecules, giving usable energy, carbon dioxide and water in the process.

Anaerobic Respiration  :-

Oxidation of food in the absence of oxygen, resulting in the release of a few amount of energy, is called anaerobic respiration. Anaerobic means oxidation without oxygen or in the absence of oxygen.

Aerobic Respiration  :-

The complete oxidation of food yielding carbon dioxide, water and energy in the presence of oxygen is called aerobic respiration. Aerobic respiration takes place inside the mitochondria. Aerobic means oxidation with oxygen or on presence of oxygen.
