Define rest & motion.

Explain with an example that rest & motion are relative to each other.

What is mixed motion. Provide some examples.

Can a body have more than one motion at a time? Explain.

Write down the differences between distance & displacement.

Answer:

Rest is state of motion less.

Motion is a State of been not in rest or continuously moving.

Mixed motion is a State of object performing various motion types in single time.

e.g if a man is rotating and suddenly moves front.

I think yes a body can have mixed motion.

Distance is length of the path, which has only magnitude whereas displacement is a total distance from initial to final point ,it is a vector quantity which has both magnitude and direction.

Answer:

1)Rest is the state an object being stationary relative to a particular frame of reference or another object; when the position of a body with respect to its surroundings does not change with time it is said to be "at rest".

2)Motion is the phenomenon in which an object changes its position over time. Motion is mathematically described in terms of displacement, distance, velocity, acceleration, speed, and time.

3)MOTION AND REST ARE RELATIVE TERMS. That means it all depends upon the observer who is observing the object. Example: ... A person standing in a moving bus is at rest with respect to bus and is in motion with respect to observer on the ground.

4)A body can have more than type of motion. Such a motion is called mixed motion.

Example:

The wheels of a moving train have both the translatory as well as the rotatory motions.

5)Yes the body can have multiple motions at the same time for example if you roll down a ball through inclined then the ball will do the rotational motion as well as linear motion.

6)Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion. Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position.
