Retardation is a phenomenon which means delaying or slowing down the motion of a body.
- Retardation can occur naturally or artificially.
- Natural occurrence of retardation is slowing down of a river when it comes near the sea. A river starts its journey from a glacier where it has a very high velocity and an accelerating current. But as the river flows down the hill to the planes its velocity decreases. This is natural example of retardation.
- A more common example of retardation is slowing down of a vehicle by applying brakes. This is an artificial example of retardation.
