Sales Promotion is best defined as “something extra that one did not expect to receive in the normal course of business”. It is also defined as short-term incentives to buy products. This is to distinguish it from traditional advertising and marketing. The something extra takes many forms but most typical are contests, sweepstakes (prize promotions), premiums, giveaways, incentives, reward savings programs (points, mileage, etc), rebates and refunds.
